My Favorite Scar Oil
It was 3 weeks before our wedding and my husband cuts his forehead open with the back door of his SUV. “Excuse me, what?!?” I said as he saunters into the house with blood coming down his face. We cleaned his laceration with chlorhexidine and I closed it with dermabond. Within a few days, the dermabond peeled off and he had a red scar. Now our wedding was 2 weeks away and yes, this was smack dab in the middle of his forehead. A friend of mine had bad stretch marks after pregnancy and swore by Bio-Oil so we tried it. He used it a few times a day, and by the end of 2 weeks you could not see his scar—I was astounded! Since then, I have used it on every scar with incredible results. I tell my patients to use it during their scar massage treatment at home and by 2-3 weeks, fibrous tissue has been drastically softened and incisions seem to simply disappear. For 24 hour scar care, I recommend Bio-Oil during the day and Cica-Care at night. With this combinations, your scars don’t stand a chance!
My Favorite Cast Cover
Here in Florida, water is key. We swim year round and we sweat year round! When people ask for a waterproof cast, they don’t realize that they will have to blow dry their cast dry nor how long it takes to get it dry. One big time saver is this cast guard. I love it because there isn’t a plastic ring to slide over your cast, you aren’t relying on adhesive that looses it’s grip, and you only need one. Even if you will only be in your cast for a few weeks—this gem is worth it’s weight in gold
My Favorite Silicone Scar Sheet
I had the privilege of training with one of the best Plastic Hand Surgeons in the country, Dr. Neil Jones. During my fellowship, I noticed he was recommending a product I had never heard of: Cica Care. This silicone sheet has been around for decades, and for good reason—it works. I had a deep laceration right in the center of my forehead that would have left me with a permanently large and noticeable scar, but thank goodness I knew about Cica-Care. It takes diligence and patience, but after a few months of nighttime use, my scar is nearly invisible and requires no make up to hide. Use what the surgeons use, use Cica-Care!
