My Favorite Trigger Finger Splint
It starts for no reason. Out of nowhere your finger starts catching, you have to pull to unlock it, and wow—is it painful!! You probably have a few friends that have suffered similar symptoms and they tell you that you need a shot of cortisone. And they may be right, but isn’t there another way to get your symptoms resolve? Yes, my friend, there is! Trigger finger splints have been shown to be equally as effective as a steroid injection in alleviating trigger finger symptoms. If you have had symptoms for less than 3 months and don’t lock every time you flex your finger, then using a splint may be a better non-invasive treatment for you. Studies show more compliance when blocking the metacarpophalangeal joint and that between 55-75% patients have resolution of symptoms after 6 weeks of use. You’ll wear this at night and if you feel it is not helping your symptoms, then you’ll want to see your hand surgeon for a steroid injection.
My Favorite Finger Splint
Finger injuries are incredibly common and can take a very long time to heal. One splint that can cover a range of injuries and fit nearly every joint in your finger is the Oval 8 finger splint. These splints are ring sized, slide on easily, and are low profile. You can wear gloves over them, clean them easily, and turn them around to allow for flexion of your finger if needed. The quality of the Oval 8 cannot be matched and they are so affordable that you can get several of the same size and keep them anywhere you need for convenience. I keep mine in my car, my office, and in my kitchen!
My Favorite Silicone Finger Sleeve
One of the most common injuries I see are lacerations of fingers. We’ve all cut ourselves at one point, and most of the time, the laceration is not deep enough to injure any vital structures. But even superficial lacerations can damage cutaneous nerves. Any time you lacerate your finger, you injure small nerves that provide sensation to your fingers. And when they heal, they can be VERY sensitive! The pain can be so severe, it can keep you from being able to work or even sleep. These tiny flexible sleeves can be life savers for when you have to use your hands and your laceration or wound is still healing. They’ll protect your fingers when you have to type or touch things with any force. I love that they are reusable, washable, and you can cut them to fit farther down your finger or even on your toes. One size really does fit all!
